U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/5th Fleet/Combined Maritime Forces Commander Vice Adm. Samuel Paparo spoke with Commander of the Egyptian Navy Vice Adm. Ahmed Khaled Said on Sept. 17 to reaffirm the strong defense relationship between the United States and Egypt.

The leaders discussed the importance of integration and interoperability between the navies of Egypt and the United States to ensure maritime security and stability in the Red Sea and Eastern Mediterranean Sea. 

Paparo also expressed appreciation to Said for the continued support from the Government of Egypt, Suez Canal Authority and Egyptian Armed Forces for all the transits of U.S. Navy and USNS vessels through the Suez Canal, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
