A native of Hanford, California, Commander Micah Maxwell graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1999 with a degree in Ocean Engineering. 

After completing nuclear power and submarine basic training, Maxwell reported to the fast attack submarine USS Charlotte (SSN 766) in April 2001. Other assignments at sea include serving as the engineer officer on USS Alaska (SSBN 773) during a refueling overhaul; executive officer aboard USS Cheyenne (SSN 773), earning the Submarine Squadron 7 Battle Efficiency Award for Excellence; and commanding officer of USS Buffalo (SSN 715), completing one Western Pacific deployment and a change of home port.

At shore, he has served as submarine watch officer and assistant force nuclear power officer at Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet; engineer for Submarine Squadron 1; and the force nuclear power officer at Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Maxwell is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards).
