Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Lateef Compton
Senior Enlisted Leader of Combined Maritime Forces, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command
Command Master Chief Petty Officer Compton was born in Hartford, CT. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1993 and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1994. Following Basic Training in Great Lakes, IL, he attended MS “A” School in San Diego, CA. Upon graduation from CS “A” School, he reported for duty to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in Norfolk, VA as first a cook-on-watch, then quickly promoted to Watch Captain. Ashore, Master Chief Compton was stationed at NETC Newport, RI from December 1998 to January 2002. Here he served as the CBH manger and the Front Desk Supervisor.
In his short time ashore he helped Naval Station Newport earn its Five-Star Admiral Zumwalt accreditation for excellence. In 2002 he returned to sea-duty assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron- EIGHT-TWO (VFA-82) where He completed two deployments onboard the USS ENTERPRISE and one onboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN for Operation Enduring Freedom. In September 2005 he helped decommission VFA-82. In November 2005 after attending Enlisted Recruiting Orientation (ENRO) he reported to NRD Philadelphia were he served as Recruiter-in-Charge and Zone Supervisor.
In January of 2009 he transferred to the USS O’KANE were he assumed the duties as the Supply Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and he assumed duties as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the retired CMC. In March of 2010 he was selected by the Navy to serve as a Command Senior Chief and was directed to attend a joint training school at the Army Sergeants Major Academy – class # 61. On August 11, 2011 Command Master Chief Compton reported to USS CORONADO LCS-4 to serve as a Command Senior Chief and the 3M Coordinator. After helping successfully commission the newest LCS, he was selected to the rank of Master Chief.
In October of 2014 he transferred to NCTS Naples, Italy his Major Command tour were he helped maintain command morale and continuity for over 450 Sailors, Civilians and Local Nationals. In September of 2017, Command Master Chief Compton was selected for his current position as the first Senior Enlisted Leader for Combined Maritime Forces, Bahrain; a joint military assignment working for a British One-star.
Command Master Chief Compton has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Management from Park University and completed his graduate degree with The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in Arts with a leadership concentration. He is also a graduate of the Keystone Course (Defense University -16-2), the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy and MCPONs ELS. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit citations. Additionally, he is authorized to wear the Enlisted Information, Aviation and Surface Warfare specialist designations
