The Kidd’s VBSS team boarded and detained 15 suspected pirates who were holding a 13-member Iranian crew hostage for the several weeks. Momsen Sailors visited Tudor Primary School as part of U.S. Navy community relations program called Project Handclasp. Sailors donated toys, candy, books and other learning materials to the school. Momsen made a three-day port call to Mombasa to strengthen the friendship and partnership between the U.S and Kenya. Momsen is currently underway as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, which is on deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to support Maritime Security Operations (MSO). MSO help develop security, which promotes stability and global prosperity in the maritime environment. These operations complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt violent extremists’ use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material. This ceremony marks the first time Coalition forces by a Gulf nation have taken command of CTF 152, which is responsible for Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the Central and Southern Arabian Gulf. Maritime Security Operations help set the conditions for security in the maritime environment. From security arises stability that results in global economic prosperity.
