Awards

The following list is provided to clear up the awards and eligibility requirements for the following awards. All references and information are provided for your convenience. If you are eligible for any of the listed awards, bring your endorsed orders for all applicable periods to your service record holder, who can update your page 5. For any awards-related questions, always refer to: SECNAVINST 1650.1H and https://awards.navy.mil.

 

Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (OSR)

Inactive Reservists: 30 consecutive days or 45 cumulative days of active duty for training (ADT), annual training (AT), or TAD at overseas shore duty stations, including deployed shore units. Travel time and weekend training do not count. These Reserve rules apply only for an initial issue of the award. If you have ever earned an OSR under Reserve rules or Active rules previously, you can not earn another using these rules.

 

Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal

30 consecutive days or 60 cumulative days of active duty for training (ADT), annual training (AT), or TAD within Areas of Eligibility. Travel time and weekend training do not count. Each of these awards can only be issued once per person, and the periods used to issue either award cannot overlap with other war/campaign-based awards (i.e., the other GWOT or Afghanistan or Iraq campaign medals).
