  • In FEB 2010, MARLO visited JIATF Umm Qasr, the US task force assisting with port development in Iraq. A JIATF brief from the DEC 2009 MARLO conference can be found here. Further feedback concerning Umm Qasr should be directed to andrew.sand@me.navy.mil

     

  • Points of contacts for national navies doing escorts through the Gulf of Aden here. However, the Gulf of Aden Group Transits is still the recommended method of transit by MARLO, the US Navy, and the Combined Maritime Forces.

  • For ships transiting high-risk piracy areas

    • Contact MARLO or register at MSCHOA at http://www.mschoa.org to receive the Gulf of Aden Group Transits (GOA GT) times.
      • All ships are strongly urged to use the IRTC and follow the GOA GT if their speed is below 18 knots but greater than 10 knots.
      • Vessels faster than 18 knots should transit between 47šE and 49 šE during the hours of darkness.
      • Vessels less than 10 knots should contact UKMTO for routing guidance.
    • All vessels should establish contact with UKMTO, MSCHOA or MARLO for additional guidance.

MARLO MISSION

       The Maritime Liaison Office (MARLO) facilitates the exchange of information between the United States Navy, Combined Maritime Forces, and the commercial maritime community in the Middle East. Our liaison officers travel regularly throughout the Gulf and East Africa to foster communication, stay apprised of changes in local port infrastructure and management, and proactively address your concerns and questions.
