Note: If you have not done so already, before completing any of the below items, email NAVCENT Public Affairs at firstname.lastname@example.org to request an embark. Include name, organization, # of personnel, type of media and what specific asset you wish to embark (if any preference).
Once approved by e-mail confirmation you may begin the following process. Read all items carefully.
PLEASE DO NOT BEGIN THIS PROCESS UNTIL ADVISED BY THE NAVCENT/C5F/CMF PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE.
This will assist with streamlining your accreditation and entry into the Kingdom of Bahrain.
PLEASE KEEP DOCUMENTS IN THEIR ORIGINAL FORMAT (i.e. .doc, etc)
1. Completed Media Embark Request Form (please ensure .jpg photo is embedded in the form where applicable)
2. Completed Equipment List.
4. Copy of your passport/national ID.
5. Copy of your current press card/employment ID.
6. Ship Rider Request Form (highlighted portion only. Note: For "signature", just type full name).
7. Complete the Kingdom of Bahrain Information Affairs Authority (IAA) IAA Media Visa Application Form. (Approved e-Visa will be emailed to you by IAA typically within one week of embark)
It is recommended all media print and maintain copies of all documentation.
The embark confirmation email from NAVCENT PA and the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority (IAA) Media Visa, must be presented for entry into the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Media that are in the Kingdom of Bahrain under a U.S. Navy invited Media Visa are not cleared to conduct interviews/filming/photography/etc., unrelated to their U.S. Navy visit. If you are interested in conducting other stories or projects while in the Kingdom of Bahrain, you must apply for a separate Media Visa. If you do not receive an additional Media Visa and conduct interviews/ filming/photography/etc., then you and your network/outlet are subject to not being invited to cover future U.S. Navy operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Please e-mail all required forms to NAVCENT/C5F/CMF Public Affairs at email@example.com
Due to large file sizes, it is recommended media break up the above into multiple emails as required.
The Kingdom of Bahrain is the only location within the U.S. 5th Fleet AOR to embark and disembark from U.S. ships.
Sheikh Abdul-Aziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Senior International Counselor at the Information Affairs Authority, requests to meet with all journalists upon arrival in Bahrain. This will be scheduled the day before your embark. Any questions can be directed to:
Foreign Media Office, Information Affairs Authority Tel: (+973) 17 871 807 Fax: (+973) 17 781 400 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
For additional IAA guidance to international Media Visa in the Kingdom of Bahrain, please visit: http://bna.bh/portal/en/media-visa
Please follow up with IAA to confirm e-visa processing and approval.
NAVCENT/C5F/CMF will coordinate travel to/from the ship. Transportation to and from the Kingdom of Bahrain and while in country, is not organized by NAVCENT/C5F/CMF.
You will need to purchase a visitor’s visa upon arrival at the Bahrain International Airport for 5BD. The process can take up to an hour, and your equipment will be inspected and verified against the “Media Equipment List.” Keep your receipt from the visa with you for your return after the embark. You will be required to complete a Customs Application for Temporary Import of Accompanied Goods form. DO NOT LOSE THIS FORM AND DO NOT LEAVE AIRPORT WITHOUT IT!
When you return from the ship embark, you will have to purchase another entry visa (5BD) because the Bahrain government considers a trip to sea as leaving the country. Your passport will be stamped going to and returning from the ship. Please bring the exact amount in Bahraini dinar for your new visa. Typically, Immigration officials do not have change or foreign denominations.
Meals will be available for purchase with U.S. dollars during the embark aboard ship. The ship does not take credit cards and does not have a currency exchange. Meals aboard ship will cost approximately $15 per day.

Note: Please keep in mind media will be responsible for carrying their own equipment and it is recommended to travel light. Equipment weight limit is 65-lbs per person.
If you are returning from or recently returned from an embark, please complete and return the Post-Embark Survey.
